Overview
Dell had a very small team with an ambitious concept that needed additional horsepower to move it forward and provide an MVP. Dell selected my team to assist with the foundation. They needed a Figma expert to ensure components were built logically and for scalability as well as an illustrator to assist in production of raw assets.
-
Our team was assigned the responsibility of crafting an unconventional design system intended for use across multiple teams.
The challenge involved pushing the boundaries of Figma's capabilities to establish a highly adaptable system suitable for a diverse user base, ranging from those with zero Figma experience to those with more technical expertise.
-
Create a comprehensive atomic design system
Use atomic component building method to ensure flexibility of updates
Provide example uses and basic instructions
-
In my role as the product designer for this project, I formulated the optimal approach for charting the design system and configuring the components. This involved employing nested instances to guarantee that the system presented variant options across various levels of components.
I collaborated directly with the product manager to establish the project scope for the MVP, and I also partnered with the illustrators to outline the necessary artwork. Despite illustration not being my primary focus, I did contribute illustrated elements whenever they were required.
-
After finishing this project and delivering the items, Dell was able to utilize the system and pathways we established leading to decreases in timelines and a valuable toolset for communications across multiple departments.
